A late 18th-Century silver hydrometer,
unsigned, and three other 19th-Century examples

The silver hydrometer has a scale 0-45 and a threaded end piece. The fourteen weights are arranged to screw onto the end. There is a wood-mounted thermometer containing an amber liquid. The interior of the case is carved, and there are two brass hooks and eyes -- 24.6cm. (9 5/8in.) wide
and a brass Sike's hydrometer signed BUSS 33 HATTON GARDEN LONDON. There are nine weights, each stamped 43361 and a signed, ivory-mounted thermometer. The case has a purple silk pillow in the lid and purple plush lining, and two brass hooks and eyes, with an ivory plaque in the lid -- 20.1cm. (7 7/8in.) wide
and a brass hydrometer signed CLARKE IMPORT 8098 with the dagger motif. The finial on the end is engraved SPT;WINE 8096. There are thirty-eight brass weights, some stamped COLD COLDISH or similar, and an ivory-mounted thermometer engraved for DRING & FAGE No 20 TOOLEY St NEAR LONDON BRIDGE numbered 11743. The case has green felt lining and a silk pillow in the lid, two brass hooks and a wooden plaque on the lid for CLARKES IMPORT HYDROMETER MADE ONLY BY DRING AND FAGE, HYDROMETER MAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY'S HONOURABLE BOARD OF EXCISE.
