Brittaniarum REGI Augustisimo GEORGIO TERTIO Astronomorum Patrono Munificentissimo, Celeberrimo Globum hunc Caelestum, Novam et Emendatiorem Cael[i] Imaginem, Sydera apud Africae Promontorium Australe nuperrimè observata, Atq. Stellas Catalogi Flamstediani Universas verè exprimentem, Grati animi et pietatis monumentum, D.D.Q. Omni cultu et officio devinctissimus D. Adams. Made by D. ADAMS Globe Manufacturer & Mathematical Instrum.t Maker, Fleet STreet, London. [c.1890]. The globe is made up of two sets of twelve hand-coloured engraved split gores laid to the ecliptic poles, the axis through the celestial poles. The equatorial is graduated in degrees, hours (in two directions) and minutes; the colures are ungraduated; the ecliptic is graduated in days of the month and twelve times 1-30° with sigils and twilight zone. The constellations are finely depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments and labelled in Latin and English, many also with Greek, Arabic and alternate names. The stars are shown to seven orders of magnitude with many labelled with Greek or Roman characters and some named. The globe is mounted in an engraved brass meridian circle with a stamped hour dial. The hand-coloured engraved horizon paper shows degrees, compass directions, winds in Latin, days of the month with some Saint's Days and days of the houses of the Zodiac with pictures, names and sigils. The edge of the horizon is painted red and it is raised on four curved mahogany quadrant supports to a turned column with inverted tulip base, on three low inswept legs. A glazed compass is mounted between the legs with a blued-iron needle and hand-coloured engraved paper, showing a thirty-two point wind rose and two degree scales.
