The horizon is raised on three tapering square section legs with pediments to the top and bottom, united by triform cross stretchers. Above the stretchers rise three curved mahogany quadrant supports to the meridian, and between the stretchers is held the glazed mahogany-cased compass with blued-steel needle. The engraved paper shows a thirty-two point wind rose and degrees 1-360 and in four quadrants.
