A fine 18th-Century lacquered-brass reflecting telescope,
signed Metcalfe, HALIFAX, with table stand and mahogany carrying case -- 77.5cm. (30.5in.) wide

The 62.2cm. (24.5in.) long body-tube has a dust cap, starfinder, and primary and secondary speculum mirrors, with rack and pinion adjustment to the latter. There are four eyepiece extension tubes of varying sizes, and an unrelated brass-mounted 2¼in. lens. The telescope is held by screws to two support bars, on two curved A-frame supports, one with worm screw adjustment (key missing). This is raised on a tapering brass pillar with three folding inswept legs. The fitted case is lined with black plush and has two brass carrying handles and a key.
