A restored and reconstructed 18th-Century brass reflecting telescope,
signed on the back plate JAMES SHORT LONDON and engraved 255/1316 18
The 61cm. (24in.) long body-tube has a dust-cap, primary and secondary speculum mirrors, and screw-rod adjustment. There is also a starfinder, with dust-cap and eyepiece dustslide. The telescope is raised on a worm-geared alt-azimuth mounting with an ivory handled adjustment key. This is raised on a shaped pillar and tripod stand with cabriole legs terminating in pad feet (various replacement parts)
