A fine 19th-Century lacquered-brass 3-inch refracting telescope,
unsigned, with an accompanying tripod and fitted oak carrying case -- 101cm. (39¾in.) long

The 91.5cm. (36in.) long body-tube has an objective lens dust-cap and a star-finder with a handle for sliding objective lens focusing. The eyepiece extension tube has rack and pinion and draw-tube focusing and a sliding dust cover. The telescope is mounted via a compass joint and a telescopic bar with rack and pinion adjustment to a tapering brass column. The carrying case contains a spare eyepiece extension tube and three eyepieces in a paper-covered card box, one unsigned, one by John Browning, 63, Strand. London and one numbered 4 by OTTWAY EALING, LONDON BRITISH MADE MONOCENTRIC E.F. 7 .m/m. The green-painted wooden tripod has a brass screw mounting on the top to receive the telescope's brass mounting column. (2)
