A 19th-Century lacquered-brass half-protractor,
signed on the vernier Cary, London and engraved on the arm G.S.C. No 20, in a fitted mahogany case -- 32.7cm. (12 7/8in.) wide

The semi-circular protractor is stamped with a double scale 0-180° and 180-360°, in parallel. The arm extends from a central glazed aperture with an engraved cross hair, to the vernier which runs along the outside of the scale, and an index arm. The base of the protractor has a parallel rule attached and two sprung blued-steel pins which can be placed in position by two brass slides to keep the protractor in place. The case is missing its two brass hooks and is inscribed in pencil on the inside of the lid No. 20 and on the outside in ink G.S.C. No 20.
