A late 18th-Century lacquered-brass Jones' improved-type monocular microscope,
signed on the barrel W. & S. JONES 30 Holborn London, in a pyramid-shaped mahogany case -- 36.2cm. (14¼in.) high

The barrel nosepiece screws into a short horizontal limb from the top of the main column. The eared stage moves up and down the column by rack and pinion and the plano-concave mirror is fitted to the column beneath by a screw clamp. The microscope is mounted on a mahogany plinth base with a drawer (pull missing). Accessories include: a rotating objective disc with six beads; two lieberkuhn objectives; a sprung slide hilder; stage-mounted bull's-eye lens; live box; cone; frog plate; stage forceps; black and white disc; several ivory and one brass sliders; and other miscellaneous items. The case is possibly from another instrument and has lock and key and a brass carrying handle.
