An early 19th-Century lacquered-brass Jones' most improved-type monocular microscope,
unsigned, in a fitted mahogany case -- 28cm. (11in.) wide
See Colour Illustration
The barrel screws into a short limb from the top of the main vertical limb. The eared stage moves vertically on the limb by rack and pinion, with a plano-concave mirror (deteriorated) attached with a screw clamp beneath. The main limb tilts on a compass joint atop a slightly tapering turned brass column with a splayed folding tripod foot. Accessories include: a rotating objective disc with six beads; a low power objective; stage-mounted bull's-eye condensor, two ivory sliders; and two unrelated lenses. The case has some green felt lining (some fitted sections and one hinge loose) and two brass hooks and eyes (one hook broken)
