A 19th-Century lacquered-brass and black enamelled compound monocular microscope,
signed on the foot SWIFT & SON LONDON, in a mahogany carrying case -- 32.4cm. (12¾in.) high
The barrel has graduated draw-tube and rack and pinion focusing, with micrometer fine adjustment. There is a triple nosepiece, substage condensor and plano-concave mirror. The main limb tilts on an axis between two uprights from the U-shaped foot. There are: Swift & Son 2/3, 1/6 andin. objectives; a Watson & Sons 1in. objective; and two eyepieces. The case has a lock and key and a brass carrying handle and is painted on the door W.C.O. HILL.
