A 19th-Century lacquered-brass and grey enamelled compound monocular microscope,
signed W. WATSON & SONS 313 HIGH HOLBORN LONDON 10139, in a fitted mahogany carrying case -- 33cm. (13in.) high; with a mahogany slide cabinet and a large oak accessory case

The microscope has rack and pinion adjustment to the graduated eyepiece tube, and rack and pinion focusing with micrometer fine adjustment to the barrel, with a triple nosepiece. The mechanical stage has a substage condensor and diaphragm, and a plano-concave substage mirror., raised on a tripod stand. There is one eyepiece, a brass canister of aperture discs and glasses, and Baker 2in. and 1/8in., Swift 1/8in. and Negretti & Zambra ¼in. objectives in canisters. The case has a key and wooden carrying handle;
the accessory cabinet has six drawers of varying sizes, with brass pulls and lined with green felt. Contents include: Swift & Son 1/6, 2/3 and 1in. objectives in canisters; a Kortiskain. semi-appochromatic oil immersion objective in a canister; Beck ½in. and Leitz no.3 objectives in canisters; a Leitz nosepiece diaphragm attachment; quantities of unused wooden and plain and coloured glass sliders; liveboxes, phials and a loop; stage forceps, scissors and tweezers; two double nosepiece adaptors; a Baker 45° eyepiece attachment; three Baker analyser attachments in pressed card boxes from Baker's shop, with a receipt; substage condensor and diaphragm attachments; and a large table-standing bull's-eye condensor. The case has a key and lock (defective) and leather carrying handle -- 43.2cm. (17in.) wide;
the slide cabinet has 21 drawers, each with two plain ivorine plaques and a lignum vitae pull, several retaining their numbered ivory insets. The drawers are lined with blue plush and the case has a front-opening door and brass carrying handle -- 24.7cm. (9¾in.) wide (3)
