An unusual 5in. gauge wooden display model of the LBSR Peacock Class 2-4-0 locomotive and tender No.8 Isfield,
built by F. Roach in 1895, with wooden wheels chassis, boiler and fittings the tender with dummy riveting, wooden wheels and brake gear, the tool boxes lettered R Dyer, Driver, and J.Barber, Fireman. Additional details include code boards, springs, lamps, draw bar, screw couplings and buffers, finished in Stroudley livery with brass plate engraved LB & SCRV Old No. 8 mounted on a scale display track and contemporary glazed case --49.5 x 138cm. (19½ x 54¼in.)

Lot Essay

This model was built by Mr F.Roach when he was sixteen years old and a station clerk. His father, Station Master at Isfield, assisted him in his spare time in the booking office and the waiting room. It took sixteen months to build and was completed in 1895. Mr Roach later became the Station Master at Brighton and retired in 1947.
