A Louis XVI style ormolu-mounted mahogany and marquetry commode

The breakfront-shaped brèche violette marble top above a conforming guilloche frieze set with three drawers, above two long drawers decorated sans traverse with an oval reserve depicting a vase of flowers, the angles trailing bellflowers, supported on paw-cast feet, one lock engraved FOREST/A/PARIS, the reverse of the case stamped twice with FOREST

Lot Essay
The Parisian firm of Forest is noted as having a shop at 14, rue Pierre-Picard in 1883 (see D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Mobilier Français du XIXe Siècle, Paris, 1984, p. 201).
