The painting on this cabinet is after The Fountain of Love by Jean-Honoré Fragonard (d. 1806), depicting two young lovers rushing towards a fountain of bathing putti. The fountain was believed to be where Cupid dipped his arrows. A version of the original painting by Fragonard sold Christie's New York, 29 January 1999, lot 167.

See lot 94 for a note on François Linke.
