Lot Essay

The present appliques are modelled after a similar set comprised of three pairs, supplied by Thomire (maître 1772) for the salon des jeux du Roi at Saint-Cloud in 1787. The set is currently divided between the Louvre and the Petit Trianon. Similar 18th century lights are in the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Wallace Collection. The prestigious 19th century firm of Beurdeley is known to have copied the model.
