Opinion is mixed as to whether the present rarely seen bronze of a striding lion is a model by Antoine-Louis Barye, conceived as a pendant to his Lion qui marche, or an imitative work by his son Alfred. The model is illustrated and catalogued as being by Barye senior in Myth, Monument and Menagerie, the Sculpture of Antoine-Louis Barye, Sladmore Gallery exhibition catalogue, May-June 1990, no. 9, p. 24.
