Although not edited for the first time until a slightly later date (1845), Cheval demi-sang, tête baissée, réduction was clearly conceived as the pendant to Cheval demi-sang, tête levée, réduction (see previous lot). Poletti and Richarme estimate lifetime épreuves to number at least forty. Whilst tête levée was edited posthumously and over a long time period by Barbedienne, the modèle for tête baissée was acquired by Brame, and a far more modest edition cast in 1876.
