Note:
There is very little information on the artist Xue Kai, apart from that he lived during the early Qing dynasty. There is another hanging scroll by him, also a poem in running script calligrapy, dedicated to Master Xing and dated in the thirtieth year of the Kangxi era (1691), that is housed in the Nanjing Museum. See Liu Jiu'an, Song Yuan Ming Qing Shuhuajia Chuanshi Zuopin Nianbiao (A Chronology of Paintings and Calligraphys from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties), Shangahi Shuhua Chubanshe, 1997, p.526
