One of 2003's more memorable wines. The 1989 Angélus, having dropped the "l'" in this vintage to appeal to new world buyers, is brimming with lush fruit, currants, black plum and thick mineral. A stimulating challenge for the intellect as well as the senses. So persistant were the aromas right from pulling the cork that had I tasted it blind I would have guessed a wine five times its price and twice its classification. Only the 1990 compares favorably against it; however for pure power, structure and emotional response '89 gets my nod. Drinks amazing now, will keep and reward for many years ahead. ST
