A FINE FLAMBE-GLAZED 'POMEGRANATE' VASE
JIAQING INCISED SIX-CHARACTER SEALMARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1796-1820)

Of hexafoil lobed section with conforming neck and everted rim, standing on a low flared foot, all under a deep reddish-purple glaze with shades of blue and lavender running between the segments, the inside of the mouth with a pale blue glaze and the base glazed brown

Lot Essay

An identical pomegranate vase with Jiaqing mark was sold in our London Rooms, 21 June 2001, lot 100. Other comaprable flambé vases of this shape with Qianlong marks are published, one illustrated by J. Ayers, The Baur Collection, Geneva, vol. 3, 1974, no. A291; one illustrated in Ming and Qing Ceramics and Works of Art from the Osaka Museum, p. 46, fig. 209; one by Liu Liang-yu, Ch'ing Official and Popular Wares, vol. 5, p. 207; and another sold in these Rooms, 28 April 2003, lot 692.
