Examples of boxes carved in imitation of floral brocade covers are published, although the present box with its Yuzhi mark appears to be unique. The first example from the Nanjing Museum is illustrated in Zhongguo Qiqi Quanji, vol. 6, Qing, no. 221; a polychrome lacquer box with ivory simulating the edges of the pages, included in the exhibition, Daily Life of the Qing Emperor, illustrated in the Catalogue, Hong Kong, 1994, no. 53; and two other boxes are from the Palace Museum, Beijing, the first illustrated in Sankido and Master Pieces of Chinese Stationary, Tokyo, 1990, p. 24; and the box published in the Carved Lacquer in the Collection of the Palace Museum, no. 395. Also compare with the box and cover carved with a landscape scene sold in these Rooms, 31 October 2000, lot 1012.
