Momoyama Period (Late 16th Century)
Kodai-ji maki-e, with flush-fitting lid and rounded corners and edges, the exterior black lacquer and nashiji decorated in gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kirikane, nashiji, tsukegaki, kakiwari and harigaki, depicting a katami-gawari [divided-in-two-halves] design with kiri and kiku-mon and sprays of chrysanthemums and autumn flowers, the interior with a sparse nashiji ground decorated with a kiri-mon under the cover, pewter rims, slight old wear
