A Ryukyu Lacquer Powder Flask
Edo Period (17th Century)
The flask of black lacquer inlaid in raden with a sage sitting beneath a pine tree beside a basket containing fern shoots, the reverse with peonies and foliage, the edge of the flask with a diaper pattern with a pot-shaped border, the ivory neck carved in finely detailed high relief with a dragon emerging from clouds, the cover and cord-lugs of dark horn
