A BLACK LACQUERED SENDAI DO TOSEI GUSOKU (AN ARMOUR WITH A TYPE OF CUIRASS FAVOURED IN SENDAI PROVINCE)

The eighteen-plate suji bachi kabuto [helmet with standing ridges] black lacquered and mounted with a four-stage gilt copper tehen kanamono [mount for the hole at the top], an iron ita mono hineno jikoro [solid plate close fitting neck guard] and an associated gilded fore crest in the form of a half moon on the front of the helmet above the peak; black lacquered iron face mask; go mai tateage do [cuirass of five vertical sections] with the upper front plates laced on; kusazuri [tassets] of iron itamono [solid plates]; itamono chu sode [medium shoulder guards]; tsutsu gote [sleeves]; karutagane haidate [thigh guards] and tsutsu suneate [shin guards]; the armour overall lacquered black and laced with dark blue spaced lacing, mounted on dark blue hemp cloth reserve dyed with a dragon design
