Lot Essay

Although not directly identified in the title of the present work, the subject of this drawing is the actress Natalie Wood. This early drawing is one of the earliest examples of Warhol's star struck subject matter that would dominate most of his work in the 1960s and propel him into his own celebrity. Warhol would go on to produce several paintings of Natalie Wood, Hollywood and America's sweetheart.
