Lot Essay
Accompanied by Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine et de Garantie and Extract from the Archives confirming the production of the present watch in 1958 and its subsequent sale on 9 October 1958.
The present lot is from the first series of the reference 2570/1, launched in 1958 with movement caliber 12-400. As of 1960, caliber 12-AM 400 with same size and construction but with Gyromax balance and free spring regulator was used.
Both series feature an inner soft-iron cap resisting magnetic fields up to 450 oersteds.
To the best of our knowledge, it appears that the present watch is only the second example of a pink gold reference 2570/1 to be offered at auction.
A similar model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, 2nd edition, p. 194.
For a reference 2570/1 in yellow gold see lot 152 in this sale.
