Lot Essay
Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the production of the present watch with silvered dial with black enamel indexes in 1938 and its subsequent sale on 31 October 1939.
It is the first time that any reference 530 is offered publicly with such a previously virtually unknown dial. Not only does the dial lack an outer scale for either tachometer, pulsometer or telemeter, but also any applied numerals or indexes. Consequently, the subsidiary dials for constant seconds and 30 minutes register could be enlarged and lend the watch now a totally unique appearance, more commonly seen in pilot's watches and scientific instruments.
It should also be underlined that the dial of the present watch has not undergone any kind of restoration but has beautifully and harmoniously aged over the last 65 years.
The chronograph wristwatch reference 530 with 13''' movement was launched in 1937 and it is thought that less than 100 examples in yellow gold were made.
The first series features more substantial but narrow lugs, the distance between the two lugs being only 19 mm., giving the watch a more tonneau-like, hence more massive and masculin look. The second series with thinner lugs with a distance of 21 mm. between them has a wider appearance.
