A collection of signatures of politicians and war leaders, 1930s and 1940s, including Winston Churchill (cut signature), Dwight Eisenhower (letter signed, 21 March 1944), Charles de Gaulle (autograph note unsigned on a visiting card, with accompanying letter), B.L. Montgomery, Anthony Eden, Neville Chamberlain (letter signed, 1937), Douglas Bader, Ramsay MacDonald and Stanley Baldwin, together with others including Yehudi Menuhin, Irving Berlin, John Gielgud and Sybil Thorndike, 16 in total.
The autographs were presented to Nanette Oppenheimer, and a number of the letters refer to the ingenious ways in which she framed her requests for them. (16)
