The Book of Common Prayer, London: John Bill, Henry Hills and Thomas Newcomb, 1684. 8° (164 x 95mm.). Rubricated throughout. (Some signatures and catchwords cropped.) Early 19th-century black straight-grained morocco decorated in blind, engraved brass corner- and centre-pieces, clasps, spine lettered in gilt, gilt edges. Provenance: "Mary Wakelin. Her Book Given Her By Her Grandmother Wakelin Nov. 1817" (inscription on front free endpaper); Margaret Strong (later signature); "How vexatious When They fresh bound this Book they defaced the Date" (old inscription - and rather a puzzling one since the date is not defaced); further inscriptions in the same hand at the end; Paul Quick Karkeek (bookplate).
