FLIGHT INTO EGYPT, on a leaf from a Book of Hours, in Latin, ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM

approx. 176 x 126mm. Large arch-topped miniature of the Flight into Egypt with the Miracle of the Corn in the background, surrounded by a full border of divided grounds of gold, red, blue, brown and grey, above the opening of Vespers in the Office of the Virgin, with a large initial with floral infill on a gold ground and a small initial and line-endings in gold on grounds of red or brown. Similar initials on the recto, ruled for 24 lines, with None of the Hours of the Cross and of the Holy Spirit in a lettre bâtarde, in one margin a panel border of acanthus and foliage on divided gold grounds. The leaf comes from the same Rouen Hours as the preceding lot and is by the same hand. Both miniature and border are richly coloured and gilded (small paint losses in blues). Double-sided gilt frame.
