7 volumes, 2° (448 x 278mm). 5 engraved frontispieces, 7 titles printed in black and red with engraved vignettes, 280 engraved plates, many folding, including 114 maps and plans plus views, heraldic and genealogical charts. (Without the Carte très curieuse, some light spotting and browning, heavier in volume VII, several plates with small marginal tears.) Uniformly bound in contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt, morocco lettering-pieces, red edges (several minor splits at joints, extremities rubbed, corners bumped).

A COMPLETE SET OF CHATELAIN'S ATLAS HISTORIQUE. First edition of volumes IV to VII, second edition of volumes II and III, third edition of volume I. The Atlas Historique was an ambitious work, covering a range of subjects including genealogy, cosmography, topography, heraldry and chronology. It was first published in Amsterdam in 1705-20, with a second edition published in 1732. The text was compiled by Gueudeville and Garillon with a supplement by H.P. de Limiers and the maps by Chatelain (many based on Guillaume de l'Isle). The present set includes 26 maps relating to America, but is without the Carte très Curieuse, which is usually found in volume VI. Koeman, Atlantes Neerlandici II pp.34-38; Phillips, Atlases 579. (7)
