4° (219 x 155mm). Double-page engraved arms of Scotland, 10 engraved portraits of Scottish kings and queens at the end. (Title rather dust-soiled, crease-marked and repaired at the fore-margin, following leaf repaired at lower blank margin, plate of arms extended at lower margin, some corners repaired, some marginal soiling and staining, last 2 plates reinforced along outer margin.) 19th-century green morocco (spine rubbed, corners worn). Provenance: the Stirling Maxwell copy with his bookplate inside upper cover and his monogram and arms blind-stamped on sides. FIRST EDITION. STC 14797.
With one other volume from Stirling Maxwell's library, containing Buchanan's De iure regni apud Scotos dialogus ... editio tertia (Edinburgh, 1581) [STC 3977], bound with 3 other tracts [STC 21904; STC 21998.5; STC 18017] and one broadside [STC16556].
