(M2-3 of vol. II slightly soiled.) Contemporary green morocco by J. Clarke, covers with leaf pattern roll-tool anf fillet border and [?]later crest of an eagle, wings addosed, preying on an infant, swaddled, on a chapeau, within the Garter surmounted by a coronet, gilt spine compartments directly lettered and tooled with a repeated design of scallop shells and wreaths enclosing a flower or volume number, gilt edges, yellow endpapers (joints rubbed, one spine slightly damaged by wax). Provenance: William Beckford (1759-1844, attribution by a bookseller; pencilled shelf marks ML.5.c./57.E -- the latter crossed through).
