The present lot is a preparatory study for the monumental mural, "De Dans aller Tijden", which depicts warriors blowing their trumpets in the midst of the battle (see H.H. van Calkar, Prof. J.H. Jurres, Amsterdam, 1947, p. 47 and ill. p. 98).
