The generous scrolled angle-mounts are very distinctive of the oeuvre of Antoine Foullet, who received his maîtrise in 1749. His atelier in the rue du Faubourg Saint Antoine specialised in clock-cases of both marquetry and 'Boulle' and his mounts are traditionally thought to have been supplied by the fondeur Héban. After his death in 1775 twelve clock-cases were recorded as remaining unfinished and were subsequently completed by the ébénistes Lieutaud and Duhamel.
