Lot Essay

There are several mention of tapestry series illustrating the Seasons and Elements in the 18th century. So a sales catalogue of Pieter van der Hecke (d. 1752) mentions a set of six such tapestries, four Seasons and two Elements, designed by Lodewijk van Schoor. A set of tapestries, possibly from the same design from the collection of Mme Dubemet Douine, sold Bellier, Ader, Paris, 15 - 16 May 1946, lot 250.
