Disbound album of 82 albumen prints. c.1891. All but two approx. 23.5 x 29.5cm. or reverse. Majority with printed title labels, titled in pencil on mounts. Inscribed To/Mr Cotton/with my best regards/Sayaji Rao Gaekwar of Baroda/Lucerne/12th October 1893 in ink on front free endpaper.
Overall size: 38 x 43cm.

Lot Essay

Mainly architectural views, including the city's prime landmark the Laxmi Vilas Palace. Built in 1890 as the principal residence of the Gaekwar royal family, the palace was commissioned by HH Sayaji Rao III Gaekwar, 11th Maharaja of Baroda (1863-1939) whose inscription appears on the front free endpaper. Also includes two portraits, one of the Maharaja and the other, possibly of his eldest son, Fateh Singh Rao.
