The famous battle of Ichinotani, between the Taïra and Minamoto Families, took place in 1184 near Hyogo in Satsu Province. After being attacked by the Minamoto army, the Taïra warriors had to flee in their boats. When crossing the river, the young Atsumori of the Taïra clan was stopped by Naozane, chief of the Minamoto army. After defeating Atsumori, he took off Atsumori's helmet and was shocked by his young age, and even the likeness to his own son. Being troubled by his conscience, Naozane became monk and lived the rest of his life in a monastery
