Lot Essay

The half-round bead moulding to the front edges of the sideboards and the three-part construction of the cornice are very characteristic of West Country furniture.

This cupboard has close similarities with those made by West Country fishermen in Newfoundland and this example was included in a major exhibition of Newfoundland outport furniture by the Newfoundland Museum at St Johns in 1994, curated by Dr B Cotton and Walter Peddle, museum curator.
