The upper section with a moulded cornice and a pair of glazed doors with thirteen panes and flanked by pilasters, the base with two short and two long graduated drawers between quarter-columns and with a shaped frieze and integral bracket foot

Lot Essay

This dresser has many characteristics which are typical of Cornish pieces, including the ornate lower frieze and the use of pilasters and complex cornices. These latter details are also found in some items of furniture from Southern Ireland and serve to illustrate the design parallels found in furniture from these two places.
