Lot Essay

This table is impressed 'R. Simpson Maker' beneath the top.
Robert Simpson (fl.1848-1887) worked in Nicholas Street, Lancaster, until 1887 when he formed a partnership with his relative, James Simpson, who had also worked in Nicholas Street sinced 1848 (see lot 32 for a chest of drawers made by the partnership of these two makers).
