This chest has a rare paper label glued to the underside of the lid which refers to the maker 'Thomas Nuttall, cabinet maker, Ormskirk'. Of the multitude of chests of this type which have been recorded, this is the first known to date to be identified to a particular maker. (Thomas Nuttall, fl. 1825-1837).
