Lot Essay

Augustine Bowler, thought to be of Hull (fl.1626-48).

Bowler's merchant mark is illustrated, see Thomas North FSA, The Church Bells of the County and City of Lincoln, Leicester, Privately Printed for the Author by Samuel Clark, 1882, (fig.170).

From a bell at Kirton in Lindsey in 1629, the "merchant's" mark said to be a cypher of his christian name.
