On reeded tripod feet, pierced bracket support to the handle, the handle inscribed with the founders name, and terminating in a human mask

John Palmar is believed to be the father of Tho. Palmar, Canterbury founder, fl.1636-1671.

A skillet by John Palmar was sold in these rooms as part of the John Fardon Collection, 1 May 1996, lot 162. Another by John Palmar was sold in Great Rooms at Christie's King Street, as part of a lot including two others by his son Thomas in the sale of an important collection of early oak furniture and metalware removed from The Manor House, Bramcote, Nottingham, 24 May 2001, lot 325. See also lot 467 in the present collection for a large inscribed and dated mortar by this founder.
