Lot Essay

Although Mr. G. Halphen acquired this fine torso of the four-armed Vishnu as stemming from the Pre Angkor period, Prasat Andet style, it seems that its origine should be sought in Peninsular Thailand. Not only this particular polished stone type, but also the form of body suggest this provenance. Further more both sashes which keep together his dhoti and fall in a thick vertical fold, are more common for Peninsular Thai stone examples.
