Lot Essay

The current bit was originally made of two plates chained up together. Comparing this piece with the one kept at the Rietberg Museum of Zurich, illustrated in Bronzen aus dem alten China, Zurich 1975, pl.130 and La Chine Archaïque, Bronzes et Jades du Musée Rietberg-Zurich, Zurich 1987, no.31, it is interesting to note how similar they are, suggesting that there is a possibility that both belong to each other.
