Lot Essay

These firebacks, are a rare survival which probably originally came from Abbotstone, the Dukes of Bolton's original house in Hampshire. Removed to the cellar of Hackwood Park during the Regency remodelling of the house, the stack was discovered before the sale in 1998.
They are cast with the Bolton coat-of-arms of 'three swords in pile, points downwards'.
