Chivas Regal whisky was founded by two brothers, James and John Chivas in Aberdeenshire. Their grocery store in King Street, Aberdeen (established in 1801) sold a range of whiskies including several blended experiments which proved remarkably smooth and became enduringly popular. By 1843, Queen Victoria had bestowed a Royal Warrant and through the second half of the 19th century, the business continued to grow as the orders for the various whiskies flooded in. The famous blend of Chivas Regal itself was conceived toward the end of the 19th century, and in 1936 the firm became Chivas Brothers Ltd. In 1950, Chivas Brothers bought Strathisla Distillery in Keith, providing the heart of Chivas Regal with a secure supply of Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
