A GEORGE II FIGURED-WALNUT CONCERTINA-ACTION CARD-TABLE
Mid-18th Century
Featherbanded on the top and front, the eared hinged top enclosing a worn green velvet interior with four candle-stands and four counter-wells, on cabriole legs headed by shells and foliage, on claw feet, with paper label on the underside inscribed in ink 'Colonel DONN Put on moulding repair ground ...', one back ear replaced
28½ in. (72.5 cm.) high; 34¼ in. (87 cm.) wide; 16¼ in. (41 cm.) deep
Provenance
Bought by the owners' grandfather, Colonel L. Donn circa 1940.

Lot Essay

This card-table has Venus's shell badge at the top of its legs and Jupiter's eagle claw feet. It is very similar to one sold from the collection of the late Mrs. P. E. L. Wood, in these Rooms, 6 July 1989, lot 108.
