Lot Essay

The main bedrooms were supplied with 'Oak Cornice ends £1' per pair, whereas the reception rooms had gilt cornice ends. The pearled and readed 'patera' curtain-rod finials harmonise with Bullock's window-seat patterns (see lot 177) based on a 'Roman altar' or 'Antique Seat of White marble' illustrated in the court architect C. H. Tatham's, Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture..., 1790 (pl. 46).
